The Slovenian unicorn behind Talking-Tom has been acquired for $1 billion

2017-01-25

Outfit 7 investments Ltd (AKA Outfit7), best known for the “Talking Tom” app, announced on Jan 20th that its shareholders have sold 100% of their shares to a consortium of Asian investors, represented by United Luck Group Holdings Ltd.

This surely goes down as the largest ever sale – public or private of a Slovenian company, and also the only unicorn exit from within the CEE region since Skype. Outfit 7, has been founded in 2009 by a married couple Iza and Samo Login, with a completely bootstrapped operation, raising zero external capital and getting operational funding at a much later stage from Najdi.si, Slovenia’s leading search engine.

Sources from the latest story tell us that the purchase prize was around $1 billion and all Outfit7 employees across companies in the UK, Slovenia, China and Cyprus are continuing to grow the Talking Tom and Friends brand, including the original founders Iza and Samo.

Over the years, Outfit7 became a market leader in family entertainment and has over 5 billion app downloads to date, and over 300 million active monthly users.

The news of this sale came right on time with one of Outfit7s’ best releases to date “My Talking Hank” which has over 50 million downloads alone. Besides Talking Tom and Talking Hank, among the most downloaded applications are Talking Angela, Talking Ginger and Talking Ben.

Besides free mobile applications, the company develops games, a CGI animated series and web shorts, a global licensing and merchandising program, and chart-topping YouTube videos. Talking Tom and Friends franchise is known and downloaded in 230 territories around the world.

Outfit 7 has won many awards such as the ‘Best Animated Series’ at the 2016 Cablefax Program Awards; honorable mention in ‘New Animated Series for 6-11 years’ category at the 2016 Cynopsis Kids !maginationAwards, the Tillywig Toy & Media Award; the ‘Best iPad Game: Kids, Education and Family’ award and many more.
